Round One and Hurricane Earl

As the players practiced on Thursday morning, the golfers not only had their eyes on their golf balls, but on Hurricane Earl as well. Packing sustained winds of 140 mph at moving along at the brisk clip of 18 mph, Earl began rapid progress up the East coast, threatening much of the Eastern states, and Nova Scotia additionally. At around midday Thursday, this statement was issued by the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida:

“Watches and warnings were posted along the Atlantic coast for most of North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and part of Massachusetts, alerting residents that hurricane and tropical storm conditions were possible within 36 to 48 hours.”
