It would be impossible to overstate the importance of healthy forests for the overall wellness of the planet and the life that exists upon it; about as impossible as it would be to learn the ground shaking facts concerning deforestation and remaining steady. It's appropriate, considering the United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 2011 as the International Year of Forests.

The Forests 2011 initiative is lead by the UN and a host of global partners such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which has made great strides in forest landscape renovation work. Forests 2011 is a global enterprise to celebrate the role people across the world play in protecting and conserving forest life. And, of course, education plays another role in making Forests 2011 a global success.
